CALL FOR PAPERS – SPECIAL ISSUE
DELSU Journal of Niger Delta Studies, Vol. 2, No. 3, 2026
Theme: HYPREP at 10: Remediation, Health, Livelihoods and Governance in Ogoniland and Beyond
As the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) marks ten years since the 2016 UNEP report on Ogoniland, the DELSU Journal of Niger Delta Studies invites scholarly contributions for a special issue assessing progress and future directions.
This peer-reviewed special issue will evaluate HYPREP’s technical achievements in land and water remediation, analyze health and environmental impacts on affected communities, interrogate livelihood restoration efforts, and examine governance, transparency, and accountability under the Petroleum Industry Act 2021. Papers are welcome from the Niger Delta and other oil-impacted regions, with a focus on scaling lessons to Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers States.
Sub-themes:
- Remediation Science: Soil washing, phytoremediation, groundwater, mangrove recovery, UNEP metrics
- Health and Environment: Cancer, respiratory disease, water/food impacts, IARC epidemiological data
- Livelihoods and Economy: SME grants, aquaculture, scholarships, land loss, alternative livelihoods
- Governance and Policy: Community participation, HCDT under PIA 2021, transparency, Ogoni leadership
- Beyond Ogoni: Scaling lessons to Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and artisanal refining and modular refineries, etc.

Publication Date: 30th December 2026
Manuscripts of 3,000–6,000 words, with abstracts of 250 words and 8 keywords, should follow APA 7th Edition style.

DELSU Journal of Niger Delta Studies, Vol. 2, No. 2, 2026
The DELSU Journal of Niger Delta Studies a peer-reviewed biannual publication of the Centre for Niger Delta Studies (CENDS), Delta State University, Abraka, invites original research articles, review articles, and case studies on issues affecting the Niger Delta region.
We welcome papers on: oil and environment, cultural heritage, economic development, security, peacebuilding, sustainable development, livelihoods, environmental management, green strategies, and indigenous language development.

30th July 2026
Manuscripts:
5,000–8,000 words, APA 7th Edition.
