JOURNAL POLICY
The DOU, Journal of Environmental Sciences (DJES) publishes peer-reviewed academic journal articles, and it is domiciled in the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria. The main interest of the journal is to advance knowledge, research, and professional practice in environmental cum related disciplines.
All the manuscripts to be submitted to this journal must be original, well-researched, and must not be under consideration for publication in another journal. Each paper is made to undergo a double-blind peer review process. This is to ensure that all articles pass academic integrity, meet quality, and are relevant to the journal's aim and scope. Submissions are evaluated based on scientific rigor deployed, methodological approach and soundness, clarity of presentation, and the contribution(s) to knowledge.
It is critical to note that the editorial board reserves the right to accept, reject, or request revisions for all submitted manuscripts. All accepted papers are subject to editing for clarity, grammar, and formatting consistency according to the journal's style and guidelines. Authors retain moral rights to their work, while the journal holds copyright for published materials.
The journal promotes ethical research and publication practices in line with international standards. Plagiarism, falsification of data, and duplicate submissions are strictly prohibited. The editorial team upholds transparency, fairness, and academic excellence in all publication decisions.
Authors' guidelines for the contribution of article(s) and editorial procedures
The DOU Journal of Environmental Sciences (DJES) welcomes the submission of high-quality, original research papers, technical notes, case studies, and review articles in all areas of environmental sciences, including Sustainable Development, Geography, Environmental Management, Urban and Regional Planning, Estate Management, Quantity Surveying, Fine and Applied Arts, Architecture, Building, Surveying and Geo-Informatics, and Related Disciplines.
Manuscript Preparation
- Length and Format: Manuscripts should be between 4,000 and 7,000 words, typed in Microsoft Word, Times New Roman font, size 12, double-spaced.
- Title Page: Include the title of the paper, author(s) full name(s), institutional affiliation(s), email address, and corresponding author’s contact information.
- Abstract: Provide an abstract of not more than 250 words and 4-6 keywords.
- Structure: Manuscripts should follow this sequence: Title, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgements (if any), and References.
- Tables and Figures: Should be clearly labelled, numbered consecutively, and inserted close to the point of citation. (Please note, tables are to be titled at the top and figures at the bottom, with sources well documented.)
- References: Follow the latest APA (7th Edition) referencing style.
Submission Process
All manuscripts should be submitted electronically via the journal’s official email or online submission portal. The submission implies that the article has not been published previously and is not under review elsewhere.
Editorial and Review Procedures
All papers undergo an initial editorial screening to ensure relevance, quality, and compliance with formatting requirements. Manuscripts that meet these criteria are sent for double-blind peer review by at least two experts in the relevant field. Reviewers assess originality, scientific quality, methodological rigor, and contribution to the field.
After the review, authors may receive one of the following decisions: accept without revision, accept with minor or major revisions, or reject. Revised manuscripts must be resubmitted within the specified period. The editorial board reserves the right to make editorial and linguistic adjustments to accepted manuscripts.
Ethical Considerations
Authors are responsible for ensuring that all work is original and properly cited. Plagiarism, data fabrication, and multiple submissions are strictly prohibited. Research involving human participants must include an ethical clearance statement where applicable.
Proofs and Publication
Accepted papers will receive page proofs for final correction before publication. The journal publishes throughout the year.
Subscription and Publication Charges
To support the cost of high-quality peer review, editorial management, and publication processes, contributors to the DOU Journal of Environmental Sciences are required to pay the following non-refundable fees:
- Manuscript Review Fee: ₦10,000 (non-refundable) for authors in Nigeria, and $10 for authors outside Nigeria. This fee is payable upon submission of a manuscript for peer review.
- Publication Fee (Single Author): ₦25,000 for authors in Nigeria, and for authors outside Nigeria $35 payable after the paper has been accepted for publication.
- Publication Fee (Multiple Authors): ₦35,000 for authors in Nigeria and $50 for authors outside Nigeria. This is payable after acceptance for papers with two or more authors.
All payments should be made only after communication with the Editorial Office. Evidence of payment must be forwarded to the Managing Editor along with the final version of the manuscript.
The journal operates throughout the year. Each issue is published online.
Indexing: Published articles in this journal are indexed in Google Scholar and other indexing bodies.
