About the Journal
EGS: Journal of Art Research is a bi-annual (June and December) peer-reviewed ONLINE, interdisciplinary journal dedicated to advancing knowledge, critical discourse and innovation in the visual arts, design and related fields. Rooted in a commitment to academic excellence and creative exploration, EGS publishes original research articles, reviews, essays, and practice-led studies that engage with both historical and contemporary issues in art. The journal shall foster Afrocentric intellectual space for scholars, artists, educators, and practitioners to share insights, challenge conventions and contribute to global conversations shaping the future of art and visual culture. The journal welcomes diverse perspectives and methodologies that interrogate aesthetic, theory, technology, cultural identity, education and socio-political dimensions of art. This opportunity is open to emerging researchers or seasoned academics.
Vision And Mission Statement
The Egonwa Guide of Scholars, a visionary platform inspired by Professor Osa D. Egonwa’s groundbreaking theory of Studio Art Practice, was founded by his direct research (MFA, Ph.D Studio, and MA, Ph.D Art History) mentees. The Guild envisions building a new generation of practitioners in Studio Art, Art History and other forms of research in the creative genres that are rooted in African aesthetics and traditions, thereby positively impacting new knowledge systems in the post-modern era. Thus, drawing from the Guild System, EGS fosters mentorship between masters and apprentices within academic settings. Therefore, our mission is to encourage the production, promotion, documentation and critical analyses of artistic processes that champion African-centred art theory.
